VEGF has a predominant role throughout tumour development
VEGF contributes to tumour growth in several important ways.3,4,6–9,62,63
- Facilitates survival of existing vessels.
- Contributes to vascular abnormalities (e.g. high interstitial pressure) that may impede effective delivery of antitumour compounds.
- Stimulates new vessel growth.
- May prevent immune response to tumours.
