Safety profile of Avastin front-line in ovarian cancer
Safety data from the two large phase III trials of Avastin as front-line therapy in ovarian cancer, GOG-0218 and ICON7, demonstrate that Avastin has a manageable side-effect profile.
The two large phase III trials of front-line Avastin, GOG-0218 and ICON7, in which more than 2,000 women with ovarian cancer were treated with Avastin, have provided safety data for Avastin administered for a maximum of 15 months.1,2 These data show that
- Avastin demonstrates manageable side effects both in combination with chemotherapy and when continued as a single agent1,2
- The incidence of GI(Complete penetration of the wall of the stomach, small intestine or large bowel, resulting in intestinal contents flowing into the abdominal cavity) perforations is within the range observed in other tumour(An abnormal growth of cells, forming a mass of tissue) types.3
