Phase III trials of Avastin front-line in ovarian cancer

Two large phase III trials of Avastin in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel as first-line therapy for ovarian cancer, GOG-0218 and ICON7, have been completed, with several ongoing phase III trials due to report results over the next few years.

Results from these two randomised(How subjects are assigned to a treatment arm in a study. The treatment a subject receives is determined by chance alone) phase III trials show that Avastin front-line in advanced ovarian cancer significantly improves PFS(The time from trial entry to disease progression or death from any cause) when given in combination with chemotherapy and continued as a single agent until disease progression(A carcinogenic process whereby genetically altered cells undergo a second (non-genetic) cell expansion resulting in uncontrollable growth) or for a maximum of 15 months.1
