Summary of first-line Avastin-based therapy: consistently proven to give patients more time without PD
Avastin first line: proven to deliver the longest survival time in non-squamous(Pertaining to cells not from squamous epithelium; relatively common, locally invasive and occasionally metastatic) NSCLC and give patients more time without PD
Precise VEGF(A protein that promotes angiogenesis and is known to be a prognostic factor in several types of tumour) inhibition with Avastin maintains control of tumour(An abnormal growth of cells, forming a mass of tissue) growth and metastasis(The spread of a disease from one organ or part to another non-adjacent organ or part).
Avastin-based therapy extends survival beyond that achieved with conventional chemotherapy, with OS(The time from trial entry to death from any cause) beyond 1 year
- Unprecedented OS of 14.2 months in adenocarcinoma(Cancer of the epithelium that originates in glandular tissue) patients (ECOG 4599).1
- Median OS of 14.6 months in the overall population (SAiL).2
Avastin significantly and consistently improves PFS(The time from trial entry to disease progression or death from any cause) across patient subgroups (AVAiL and ECOG 4599).3,4
Based on the established need for angiogenesis(The growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels) inhibition throughout the course of the disease, an extensive trial programme is examining possible first-line combination therapies with Avastin (including Avastin plus Tarceva).
