- »The patient in this case study had an overall survival of 22 months when bevacizumab was continued until disease progression. Is this length of survival evident in many patients?
The overall survival of 22 months demonstrated with continuation maintenance bevacizumab until disease progression in this case is consistent with data from the phase IV SAiL and ARIES studies. These studies showed non-squamous NSCLC patients responding to bevacizumab-based induction therapy followed by bevacizumab maintenance therapy achieved a median overall survival of 18.8 months (n=1,332) and 19.8 months (n=540), respectively (Dansin, et al. ESMO 2010; Kosty, et al. EMCC 2011). Similarly, a retrospective analysis of US medical records from patients who received bevacizumab until disease progression (n=403) resulted in a median overall survival of 20.9 months (Nadler, et al. Oncologist 2011). One final point of interest is that I currently have two patients who have received maintenance bevacizumab for more than 8 months with ongoing remission.
